James Grove Heritage Centre
When James Grove & Sons Ltd closed in 2012 after 155 years of trading, the UK not only lost its last horn button-maker, but its entire heritage was at risk of being lost also. Courtney & Co managed to acquire much of this material and has since opened the James Grove Heritage Centre as a reference and learning resource for designers, tailors and fashion students.
Located at Courtney & Co’s premises in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, the centre comprises various interpretation boards, videos, photos, sample books, historical records, historic dies, books, old marketing material and memorabilia, not to mention a section showing the materials used in button-making, and how buttons are made.
The Heritage Centre was opened by UKFT’s President Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in 2019.
